Energy prices keep rising…that is a fact of life, unfortunately. The part that is frustrating most homeowners is while energy prices rise, the amount of energy they are throwing away (i.e. leaking) is the same or getting worse. This creates a double whammy that left unchecked will become more painful each month. There are simple ways to save money by getting an energy assessment done.
There are a couple of things you can do to help eliminate this cash drain.
1. Take advantage of improved insulation
Fiberglass insulation is the standard baseline product used by builders during construction. It is relatively inexpensive and easy to install therefore an obvious favorite choice for the builders. An upgraded option that is rarely discussed or offered is spray foam insulation. This type of insulation is superior in that it completely fills cracks and crevices and doesn’t lose its effectiveness over time. The cost savings of switching can be impressive especially if you are planning on staying in your home for a longer period of time!
2. Take advantage of a programmable thermostat
This may be one of the biggest advantages you can implement easily. A programmable thermostat can save you money by adjusting your energy usage during times you are not in your home, sleeping or as the daytime temperature shifts. This will increase your home’s efficiency and save wear and tear on your HVAC system since it reduces the workload.
3. Seal your crawl space
Most HVAC lines run under the house at some point and when exposed to high heat or low temperatures, these lines lose a lot of their efficiency due to heat transfer. In addition, just like your attic is insulated at the top of your house, sealing and conditioning the air in your crawl space can help regulate the temperatures on the lower level of your house
In all cases, an energy assessment can help you identify if your insulation is adequate, catch any ductwork issues, identify air gaps and potential moisture issues. LiveGreen is proud to offer a FREE visual energy assessment to help you give peace of mind!
